Health Insurance Options
Many families appreciate the benefits available on traditionally-styled Preferred Provider Organization (P.P.O.) plans. The plans offer copayments for items such as doctor visits and medications. Typically these plans are structured with a deductible first, then 80% coinsurance payable by the insurance company thereafter. For those who maintain healthy lifestyles and visit the doctor’s office very infrequently, a Health Savings Account (H.S.A.) plan often makes sense. This tax-favored approach to medical insurance allows you to select a plan deductible and, typically, once that is met, the insurance company pays any additional bills thereafter. In exchange for giving up copayments for office visits and medications, the H.S.A. allows you to setup a custodial account to house monies you set aside for medical expenses. Any deposits into this account are deductible from your gross income come tax time. The contribution limits for 2008 are $2900 for single coverage and $5800 for families.
