What Aetna Still Sells in Texas for 2026
Medicare Advantage
Aetna remains a major Medicare Advantage carrier in Texas with widely available $0-premium plans. About 83% of its Medicare Advantage plans hold NCQA accreditation.
Employer Group Coverage
Aetna continues to sell fully insured and self-funded plans to Texas employers, including PPO network options, for teams of any size.
Dental and Vision
Aetna dental and vision plans are still sold to individuals in Texas and can be bought alongside a health plan from any carrier.
Aetna Better Health of Texas
This is Medicaid STAR, STAR Kids and STAR+PLUS, not commercial insurance. Eligibility is set by income through Texas Health and Human Services, so enrollment runs through the state rather than a broker.
What You Cannot Get
An ACA major medical plan in your own name. Aetna exited that market in Texas on December 31, 2025, although its PPO network is still reachable through short term coverage.
Your Replacement Options
Texas still has 15 participating Marketplace issuers for 2026, the most of any state, plus off-exchange private and association plans from other top carriers.
Top Carriers We Work With
Is Aetna Health Insurance Texas Coverage Still Available?
Yes. You can get Aetna PPO network access in your own name through Allstate Health Solutions short term plans, which we market directly. Their 4 by 3 structure runs three consecutive four month plans back to back, so you can stay covered for a full twelve months.
What that gets you:
1️⃣ Keep the doctors you want to see
These plans run on the Aetna Open Choice PPO network, so you can go straight to the doctor or specialist you want instead of waiting on a referral to let you through.
2️⃣ Stay covered for a full twelve months
The 4 by 3 structure gives you three four month plans back to back. You stay covered for the year instead of re-shopping every few months or sitting through a gap you cannot afford.
3️⃣ Keep one bad week from costing you everything
Accident, critical illness, dental and vision can sit alongside the plan, so an ER visit or a crown does not come straight out of your savings. Those keep running month to month after the medical plan ends.

What Should You Do If You Had an Aetna Plan?
Three things are worth knowing before you pick a replacement, because none of them carry over from your old Aetna plan.
What does not carry over:
1️⃣ Your deductible resets
Money you paid toward an Aetna deductible does not carry to a new carrier. A mid-year switch means starting the accumulator at zero.
2️⃣ Your doctors may not follow
Aetna's Texas network is not the same as any replacement carrier's network. This has to be checked physician by physician.
3️⃣ Your prescriptions may change tier
Notably, a drug that was Tier 1 on your Aetna plan can land on Tier 3 with a different carrier. Every carrier publishes its own formulary, so this is checked drug by drug.
What Are the Best Alternatives to Aetna in Texas?
There is no single best replacement, because the right answer depends on which doctors you want to keep and what you can spend.
Your three main routes:
1️⃣ Another Marketplace carrier
With 15 issuers statewide, most Texas counties still have several options. Premium tax credits apply here and nowhere else, so if you receive a subsidy, start here.
2️⃣ Off-exchange private PPO plans
Bought directly from a carrier instead of through a public exchange. Broader networks and no referrals, although no tax credits. ACA-compliant off-exchange plans carry the same major medical protections including pre-existing condition coverage.
3️⃣ Association health plans
Off-exchange coverage available to individuals and families, and frequently where the broadest provider networks in Texas sit. Medically underwritten association and short term plans can limit pre-existing conditions, so we tell you which type you are looking at before you enroll.
Is Aetna a Good Health Insurance Company?
By the independent ratings, Aetna is a solid mid-to-upper tier carrier, stronger in Medicare Advantage than in commercial coverage, with below-average customer satisfaction scores.
The ratings, fairly stated:
1️⃣ 4.07 out of 5 overall
Aetna scored 4.07 out of 5 in Insure.com's 2026 health insurance company analysis, placing it in the upper middle of the national field.
2️⃣ NCQA marks are about average
Ten Aetna commercial plans scored 4 out of 5, twenty-seven scored 3.5, and sixteen scored 3. AM Best rates Aetna A (Excellent) for financial strength.
3️⃣ Where Aetna loses
J.D. Power satisfaction scores run below the state average in most markets surveyed.
4️⃣ Strongest in Medicare Advantage
About 83% of Aetna Medicare Advantage plans hold NCQA accreditation, and $0-premium plans are widely available in Texas.
✅ What this means in Texas
Aetna can be a good carrier and still not be an option for you, because the individual product is not sold here. Where it is genuinely worth a look in Texas is Medicare Advantage and employer group coverage.
How Much Does Health Insurance Cost in Texas Now?
Texas premiums moved substantially for 2026, which is part of why replacing an Aetna plan is worth doing carefully rather than by default.
What 2026 pricing looks like:
1️⃣ The benchmark premium
The average benchmark premium for a 40-year-old Texan rose from $489 a month in 2025 to $661 in 2026, per KFF figures reported by the Texas Tribune.
2️⃣ The increase by tier
Specifically, bronze rose 19.7%, silver 35.1% and gold 31.9%. Therefore the tier you pick changed in relative value this year.
3️⃣ What sets your own price
However, your own premium depends on your age, your county rating area, tobacco use, household size and the metal tier you choose.
4️⃣ Finding your actual number
A quote takes about ten minutes and costs you nothing, because carrier premiums are filed with the Texas Department of Insurance and identical whether you buy direct or through us.

I was in need of finding a local health insurance broker that was licensed in the state of Texas. My search results connected me with Mark Savoca and I’m so happy that it did. I highly recommend Mark Savoca. I was overwhelmed and anxious about finding health insurance for my family. I knew I didn't want COBRA, but I wasn't sure what my options were. What impressed me immediately was how quickly Mark responded after I emailed him. From that first contact and throughout the entire process, he was always responsive, patient, and willing to answer my questions. Being able to speak with someone (not AI or a robot) knowledgeable and trustworthy brought me tremendous peace of mind and significantly reduced my stress and anxiety. His professionalism and genuine care made all the difference. If you need help navigating health insurance, I highly recommend Mark!!Posted on Google![]()

I spoke with Ric about my situation and he was very helpful. He didn’t beat around the bush and gave me a honest outlook. That’s rare in my experience but definitely appreciated! If I find myself in this type of situation again, I’ll definitely look to him for guidance on all things health insurance.
Check Your Doctors and Your HSA Options Before You Replace
Networks do not transfer between carriers
Importantly, this matters more when you are replacing a carrier than at any other time, because a physician in Aetna's Texas network is not automatically in a replacement carrier's network.
Formularies differ by carrier
Notably, a drug that was Tier 1 on your Aetna plan can land on Tier 3 elsewhere. Every carrier publishes its own formulary.
We run both checks before you sign
Whichever carrier replaces Aetna, your physicians should be checked against the new provider directory and your prescriptions against the new formulary. Both are re-issued every January, including on a plan you already hold.
HSA-qualified options
If you are healthy and want the premium down, an HSA-qualified high deductible plan is usually the strongest option on the table.
The 2026 HSA limits
Specifically, contributions go in pre-tax, grow tax-free, and then come out tax-free for qualified medical expenses. For 2026 the limits are $4,400 self-only and $8,750 family, with a $1,000 catch-up at 55 or older.
The plan has to qualify first
However, the plan has to be HSA-qualified first. A merely high deductible is not the same thing, and consequently getting it wrong makes every contribution ineligible.
How It Works (3 Simple Steps)
1. Tell Us About You
First, we need your age, county, doctors, prescriptions, and whether you are replacing an Aetna health insurance Texas plan or buying for the first time.
2. Compare Your Best Options
Then we put every Marketplace, off-exchange and association option you qualify for side by side, and check your doctors against each network.
3. Enroll With Help
Finally, we handle the application, confirm your effective date, and stay on as your broker for renewals and claim questions.
Good Fit vs Not a Fit (Save Time)
This is usually a good fit if:
- Your Aetna individual plan ended and you need a replacement
- You want to know exactly what Aetna still sells in Texas
- You own a Texas business and want an Aetna group plan
- You have a specialist you are not willing to give up
- You want Aetna compared against other top carriers, not sold to you
This may NOT be a good fit if:
- You are 65 or older and eligible for Medicare
- You already have coverage that fits your doctors and budget
- You are eligible for Medicaid or CHIP
- You need help with an existing Aetna claim we did not write
- You are managing a condition and need it covered from day one
- You want coverage for a procedure scheduled next week

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Aetna not offer individual plans anymore?
Not individual and family plans. Aetna exited the ACA Marketplace in Texas effective December 31, 2025.
Aetna does still sell Medicare Advantage, dental, vision and employer group coverage in Texas, and Aetna Better Health of Texas continues to administer Medicaid STAR programs.
Therefore, if you want Aetna PPO network access for yourself in 2026, a short term medical plan is the route, and an employer group plan is the route for a team.
What happened to my Aetna individual plan?
It terminated on December 31, 2025 as part of a nationwide exit from 17 states affecting roughly 1 million enrollees.
Losing coverage because your carrier left the market is a qualifying life event, which opens a 60-day Special Enrollment Period.
However, if that window has closed, you may need to wait for open enrollment unless another qualifying event applies.
Will Aetna come back to the Texas Marketplace?
Aetna has not announced a return, and there is no confirmed date.
Notably, this is the second time Aetna has left the ACA exchanges. It withdrew in 2018 and returned in 2022, so a future return is possible.
However, planning your 2026 or 2027 coverage around a return that has not been announced is not a workable strategy.
Is Aetna a good healthcare insurance?
Independent ratings place Aetna in the solid mid-to-upper tier, with an overall score of 4.07 out of 5 from Insure.com and an A (Excellent) financial strength rating from AM Best.
Its NCQA commercial plan scores are about average, and J.D. Power customer satisfaction results run below the state average in most surveyed markets.
Aetna is generally stronger in Medicare Advantage than in commercial coverage, where roughly 83% of its plans hold NCQA accreditation.
What is the difference between Aetna and Aetna Better Health of Texas?
Aetna sells commercial insurance. Aetna Better Health of Texas administers Texas Medicaid under the STAR, STAR Kids and STAR+PLUS programs.
Specifically, Medicaid eligibility is determined by income and household size through Texas Health and Human Services, not purchased through a broker or carrier.
Consequently, if you qualify for Medicaid or CHIP, that application goes directly to the state.
Does Aetna still offer dental insurance in Texas?
Yes. Aetna dental and vision plans remain available to individuals in Texas for 2026 and can be paired with a health plan from any carrier.
Dental and vision are sold separately from major medical, so a carrier exiting the health exchange does not remove its dental products.
Coverage levels, waiting periods and annual maximums vary by plan.
What is replacing Aetna in the Texas Marketplace?
Texas still has 15 participating Marketplace issuers for 2026, the most of any state, against a national average of 9.0 per state.
The largest remaining options include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, UnitedHealthcare, Ambetter, Oscar Health and several regional plans, with availability varying by county.
However, two more carriers, Cigna and Baylor Scott & White, are leaving at the end of 2026, so a plan chosen now should be checked for 2027 availability.
